Mesut Ozil has always divided opinions amongst the Arsenal Fans since arriving from Real Madrid, and well, he still does. But now one thing's clear after his snub against Bournemouth and then a kinda suspicious back injury before the Tottenham Hotspurs game, that all is not great between Unai Emery and the German, and what it looks, for now, Unai Emery does have the fans and the Arsenal Hierarchy's backing in keeping a 350K per week player out in the cold. But the question is, Does he really deserve it? Does Henrikh Mikhyatrian and Alex Iwobi provide more to the team than him? Now that's debatable.
Mesut Ozil has been averaging 0.11 assists per game this season, his lowest return since arriving at the Emirates, other than his sensational performance against Leicester City, he has been off his game. Also he isn't an international player anymore, now it's difficult to decide whether it has taken a toll on him or not, but as Arsene Wenger pointed out, he may get rusty as International Football really lets a player get his Adrenaline going, he may also feel bit left out sometimes after not being a part of a team of which he was once a Poster Boy. In all, the 30-year-old doesn't look at the peak of his career, and things don't look any brighter in future for a man who's only going towards the Dusk of his Career. But is he really done?
The board shows the number 10 marked in red, and Arsenal Captain, Mesut Ozil is walking towards the dugout to be substituted, he walks sluggishly and looks nothing but disappointed, almost denying his Coach's decision, as he is substituted, he doesn't even care to acknowledge his Manager, and walks past him and slams his gloves on the floor, he's devastated. These were the Scenes at the Selhurst Park when Arsenal was playing Crystal Palace.
Now one would be quick to mark his indiscipline to show his displeasure at his Manager's decision Publically, but what it really signified is that Arsenal's old warhorse still wants to be out there and do it for his Club, isn't that what we want from a player earning 350K from this very Club, and according to Unai Emery's Autobiography writer, he liked that from Mesut, he liked the fact that it mattered to him to be there and do it for his club. And well, to be talking about his performances, Only Lionel Messi has more assists than Mesut Ozil over the past 10 seasons. Being second only to the World's best, that's not too bad, is it? And talking about his physicality and commitment for his team, Mesut Ozil covered 329 Km last term according to Premier League tracking data, which is second only to Nacho Monreal, while his 1759 high-intensity sprints were only fourth in the Arsenal team. While throughout the tail end of last season Özil started matches while carrying a back injury, If that's not commitment than I guess someone has to redefine the word.
While it's difficult to predict Emery's views on Özil's future in the team, it's certain that he has to make him play if he hasn't already decided on his transfer in January, he's just too good a player to be bench while Mkhitaryan is wasting golden opportunities on the pitch. And for all the fans, let's for once give this shy German what he deserves, They said "Be careful of what you wish" when cries for Wenger's exit was at it's loudest, Well I could only repeat the same phrase for Mesut Özil, he's a World Class player who deserves respect.
