Gunners Back On Track ?

Arsenal has had a French effect on them for the last 22 years, an effect which has mostly been positive except for those shady moments which we're still living. But on this weekend, the French effect was back and back for good for Arsenal and Unai Emery, Laurent Koscielny and Alexandre Lacazette not only scored the only two goals of the game, but Koscielny also made Arsenal's shabby defence look solid and reliable for once this season. What was even more pleasing than the win, was Arsenal's spirit in the game, they looked desperate to win, they turned on the intensity in the first half and then showed how to keep your opponents at bay in the second half.

Arsenal Back On Track

Unai Emery after being heavily criticised for his team selection last match, got it right this time, he employed an attacking diamond formation, with both Lacazette and Aubameyang playing as poachers and running of defender's shoulder. Unai took a feather of Pochettino's hat and employed Ramsey to mark Jorghino, he pretty much bullied Chelsea's primary passing centre throughout the match which had a predictable effect on Chelsea as they struggled to get things going against a well spread Arsenal midfield in the first half, and Hazard being employed as the false nine also helped our cause as it pretty much took Chelsea's best player out of the game.

Arsenal caused troubles to Chelsea from the moment go, they had good scoring opportunities which went begging until Lacazette showed why he's worth those 50 odd millions that Arsenal paid for him, he found a way to rattle the net from the tightest of the angles. Then Arsenal's two centre back combined to score Arsenal's second courtesy of another set piece. Sokratis took a shot at goal from outside the box but could only reach as far as the diving figure of Koscielny, who couldn't head the ball in but instead shouldered it in an empty box as Kappa was nowhere near the reach of the ball, towards the end of the half, Chelsea tried showing that they knew there was a game going on, they even came close to scoring with Marcus Alonso's header hitting the outer half of the pole.

The second half started with Chelsea looking to press, and thus Arsenal weren't able to press as much as they could in the first half, but being honest, they didn't had to press too much, they had a comfortable lead and just needed to defend alright against a lame Chelsea attack, so maybe that was a conscious plan. It took 68 minutes for Sarri to bring Olivier Giroud on, a fan favourite at the Emirates. Giroud does cause any uncomfortable moments for the Arsenal fans as he didn't score, again. But the only bad news for Arsenal came at 72nd minute as Hector Bellerin went down without a touch, he had to be pulled off the pitch through a stretcher, and it came out to be as bad as it looked, Bellerin is out for the season, a disastrous news for a team with Stephen as their back up right back though I believe Emery would prefer Ainsley Maitland Niles over him. The scoreline remained the same for the rest of the match and Arsenal saved their top-four-finish dream again.

While it hasn't been a favourable week for the Gunners off the field with Sven Mislintat leaving the club after just 14 months, and Denis Suarez deal also looking off the table for the time being. But Arsenal gave something to their fans to cheer about with this win. With an important match against Manchester United next up, let's hope to see some consistency from Arsenal. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see Mesut Ozil on the field.
