If there was any improvement in the atmosphere around our beloved club, then it’s pretty much disappeared. We lost Aaron Ramsey to European rivals Juventus and then we lost to BATE Borisov, a team of farmers who haven’t played a single competitive match in last two months. It’s just frustrating to see Arsenal going down the way they are, things just ain’t getting better. And the reason is that the men running this club just doesn‘ t listen!
Stan Kroenke won’t change his ugly financial play, he’s just milking Arsenal like a damn money cow to support his other ventures, just wished he would leave us alone sooner than later.
And for all that I try to support Unai Emery, he keeps making these shocking decisions one after the other and makes this club pay for it. Like for god’s sake, we all know he has a problem with Mesut Özil, but he needs to put that guy on the pitch for similar reasons and ways as I mentioned in my other blog Why Mesut Ozil Is Needed Tomorrow. For all those 90 embarrassing minutes that Arsenal played against BATE Borisov, one thing we dearly missed was penetration ability as Bate’s players positioned them around the box guarding their goal and our creative midfielders just couldn’t get through their defence. We had 77% of possession and 16 shots at the goal, but only 3 on target as we couldn’t provide those quality balls to our frustrated strikers. And well Arsenal’s defence has been below par for some years now, and the scoreline would have been worse if it wasn’t for Petr Cech’s saves. But I don’t blame Emery for that because he doesn’t have the defensive players of required calibre. But youjust can’t get away with dropping a champion creative player with your team struggling to create chances even against mediocre teams.
This was the same team we scored 10 goals against over two legs last season, and to be honest, we had our B team on display against them, fast forward a year, and you see Unai Emery’s first team squad losing against the same opponent. Infact Arsenal couldn't score a single goal even with top-class strikers like Aubameyang and Lacazette playing for a combined of around 107 minutes, exhibiting their lack of playmaking skills.
All throughout Wenger’s last years at Arsenal, itwas believed that a solid defence is the only missing piece in the Arsenal setup, they used to be sleek in their passing, quick in their movement and created several chances pretty much every game. But with Emery it looks ugly and slow, two words you rarely associate with Arsenal, they have struggled again the bottom sides, scraping for wins and except for two wins, their performance have been dismal has best against the top six too.
Now it’s a fact he has a sub-par squad, but the real problem lies with him not utilising it in the best way possible. During his PSG days, he made an image for himself of a manager who can’t handle star players. He was benching players Thiago Silva, Angel De Maria, Cavani on various occasions, including some big matches. And that caused disharmony between the players and the manager, and when Neymar came in, things only went one way for Emery. And he looks no different at Arsenal, if you look at players who left after he came in, it’s Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil look set for departure too.The fact that they were all captaincy candidates, in the long run, can only highlight their importance to the team. And by the look of its, don’t be surprised if one of Lacazette or Aubameyang is sold in the summer. And with Petr Cech retiring this season and Koscielny not being the youngest anymore, this squad can be his squad in few seasons and we shouldn’t be having any problem with that only if “his squad” had some quality in it too.
But still I don’t think I’m still convinced enough to support #EmeryOut yet, but what I see from Arsenal on and off the pitch isn’t pleasant, at all. I don’t know about the manager, but this club is only going one way, and sadly it’s southwards.
